Terrible film. Poor acting. Annoying characters. I'm a mad horror fan and will give anything a go in the spirit of the genre but I regret every minute wasted on this tripe.

HEREDITARY ratchets up slowly, and just when you think the film couldn't get any scarier, it gets scarier until the finale where we are treated to watching a woman methodically decapitate herself with a piano wire. THE WITCH IN THE WINDOW could have been that kind of film, but the ghost enters far too soon, does her thing, and then the film is over before the scares even start. I give this one 8 stars because of the excellent chemistry between father and son, and for the storyline that was never hatched well enough to become a great film, only a mediocre to good film. The days of blockbusters and their sidekicks the "B flicks" are long gone, dying with the advent of grindhouse which led to slasher films and the plethora of Horror films made since the mid-70s which are far below even the "B" rating (many of them Fails). This one falls somewhere between a memorable story and a B flick if, again, such existed anymore. My main problem is that it wasn't long enough, the ideas weren't played out, and the ghostly atmosphere wasn't developed well enough. The acting was well done, and the surprises unique to Ghost Stories, which don't seem to have been fully tapped for ideas and twists even yet. And that's a good thing. We need to understand, or at least dialogue about, the afterlife in all of its aspects. Ghost Stories have always helped us do this, beginning with the calling up of the prophet Samuel by the witch from Endor and then the parable of Jesus about the Rich Man.
It begins with good ingredients, father and son moving to a haunted house. That's it.
The movie does not have a scary atmosphere, doesn't have ANY scary scene, really.
This is a drama, not horror. Not even close.
Spare tour time. Don't Watch it, it is one of the worst ive ever seen.
